can anyone give a recipe for laminations and fiberglass if i wanted to make a 58 inch take down recurve bow. I've been looking for this info if someone could give me a good plan for this. I am looking for a bow between 50 -55 #

Check out Binghams chart on their website.  I would use .040 fiberglass, and the sizes are the butt thickness of the entire lamination stack (including the fiberglass).

Let me see if I can get you a little farther down the path.

The total thickness of the limb in Binghams catalog for a 1 3/4 58" take down recurve at 55# is .232" for a 2" wide limb the same 55# bow limb would be .225"

That being said, if you deduct .40 for a belly and .40 for the back (fiberglass). The remainder .152 and .145 are for all your wood laminations front and back and possibly a tapered lam or reverse tapered lamination.

It is also noted that these thickness are measured at the thickest point with out the wedge.

Lots of variables to study,which is why I like this site. Lots of guys will chime in to help you focus in on understanding some of the tough stuff.

does it work with the parrallel lams for do you have to use tapered lams

Mike you said that much better than I.  Tillrn, I would say the taper rate all depends on the limb design.  Bingham's 58" recurve plan for example calls for a total taper of .002" per inch.  Thus, when I would make the 1 3/4" wide bow that Mike detailed I would use 1 lamination tapered at .002 per inch with a butt thickness of .090, then I would use a parallel lam with a thickness of .062, and then of course the .040 back and belly glass.  

Do you have a specific 58" plan in mind or do you plan to draw one up yourself?

I think now i just need to figure out how to make a form for the take down limbs

I'm trying to draw it up myself i wanted to get as much info as i could. i pretty much have the riser planned out but didn't know much about the making of the limbs and the wedge. Thats another question about the wedge how thick and how long is the wedge on a limb like this.

On a Binghams 58",the wedge is 3/8"(.375") thick,8.25" long and has a flat 2.5" long where the TD bolt goes,tapered to paper thin on the end.
