Kansas City and surrounding area Trad Gang Members,

Back in August of “07” Rick A.K.A. Recurvericky wanted to organize a traditional archery club for the Olathe area, see                                     http://tradgang.com/noncgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=049247

From the thread called out above, I count 21 Trad Gang members (listed below) that are interested in having a way of gathering the Kansas City and surrounding area traditional archers to meet. The problem that Rick ran up against was finding a place to shoot. I think I might be able to help with this part of the problem but there will be some details to work out. One of the main issues will be liability. Other issues will be when the group would like to shoot and how often. The place that I have to offer for shooting is my private residence and my hunting grounds. (I don’t want to come off as rude) One of the things that my wife and I value very highly is our privacy but at the same time we like sharing our good fortune with others. As I stated a few months back, we have quite a bit of space for shooting indoors and out so in bad weather, high winds, rain, heat or dark we still could gather and shoot.

I think the first step would be to meet and put some faces with names and handles that we see on the Trad Gang web site. This would also give us a chance to find out what the groups expectations are and how formal or organized we want to make the group. Does everyone really want to set up a club and have a president, secretary and all the other officers that make up a formal club along with dues and responsibilities or do we want to just gather periodically as a loose knit group to shoot and create new friendships?

My thought was to meet at one of the restaurants in the Legends shopping center                                     http://www.legendsshopping.com                                     near Cabela’s. This would be a fairly equal distance for most people to travel to and the plus side is Cabela’s is close by.
Of course the key would be to find a place where 20 or 30 people can gather in one area and converse so, if someone else has a place that would work better please let me know. I know Cabela’s has a sandwich restaurant that usually isn’t very busy and it may be a possible place to meet. Update from my wife: Cabela’s has meeting rooms in the back upstairs. They rent the rooms for $75 a day and provide breakfast, lunch and dinner menu for an extra cost. This information is being sent to me.

I know that we won’t be able to accommodate everyone’s schedule but I would like to gather as many people as possible to discuss this topic so please tell the group (on this thread) what time would work best for you and then we will go with a majority rule to setup a time.

Thanks for reading and please ad your comments, advice or thoughts to help get this ball rolling.

Tom

Tom, you might give Mike @ the Nocking Point a jingle...he doesn't "do" computers, but he's relatively close to the Legends, and he may be interested as well....

No way on weekday evenings but anytime on most weekends.

I think the open dining area out on the public would be plenty large (and like you said, it's not usually very busy) and we could all just fend for ourselves for food this first time around instead of arranging a prepaid meal.  Later if this takes off that would be a nice option but for the first meeting, I'd be cautious about making fancy arrangements.
Dave

I've come to believe that the keys to shooting well for me are good form, trusting the bow to do all the work, and having the confidence in the bow and myself to remain motionless and relaxed at release until the arrow hits the mark.

The Three Trails Archery club is having a shoot on SUNday FEbruary17th  at 9am in LEE's SUMMIT. THEY ALSO ARE SERVING free CHILI WITH EACH ENTRY
I think that this would be a good time and place to gather togetherand shoot. We could also ask questions about starting a club. THese guys have been at this for quite awhile. They are a great bunch of guys who put together thiclub.I plan on being there for sure.

Dave,

I tend to agree with you about getting too carried away with the arrangements. I will stop by Cabela’s within the next couple of days and talk to the restaurant manager and get some feed back from him/her about what we are wanting to do and get their input. Maybe they can arrange some tables for us to use so that we can have an area to ourselves. They will probably be more receptive if they feel we will buy some food while we use their space.

kctreeman,

The Three Rivers shoot sounds like a fun time for sure and a good place to recruit some knowledgeable people to come and talk to us at our first meeting. If you have more information about this shoot please put a link on here and I will add it to my first post.

Iam retired so just about any day or time is ok with Me.

I have a suggestion thou how about since this is the first get together for all of us, that we have the Meeting at the Platte Woods Archery Range, they have a really nice covered shelter house there, we could cook out and have a BBQ, Shoot some Archery at the range, hold our Meeting. Just a thought for the meeting for the first time.

All we need to do is contact the Missouri Conservation Dept. to reserve the site, since it is a public Archery range.

Dave Bulla is very familar with the site, He shoots there often, a couple years ago we had a Traditional get together for a FUN day......Gail Darling.....(ONE SHOT)

I second One Shot.  Platte Falls would be a good choice and we could shoot on the range or shoot the walk thru course in the woods.  I don't know why I didn't think of that.  Good think'n Gail!!

I'm a canuck, but don't hold that against me ok.

I am coming through KC around the 26-27th of Feb with my Pinzgauer (driving it home from Milwaukee. I am coming to see a fella in KC on my way to Golden Colorado.

Anything happening around that time??? Would sure like to meet some of the people on this site.

I live in the Yukon so we don't get many people out to shoot with and most are compounders (not that there's anything wrong with that right).

I will be bringing my bow with me and was hoping to get some shooting in.

I read in the thread about Cabelas - is that the store I buy some of my online stuff at?? Sorry we are so far north we have southern lights here and we have to order most things online. We even have more bears here than people LOVE THAT. I would like to pick up a 3d target or two to bring back to the YUKON with me.

Thanks a bunch
