Long term bow storage

Well, we're gearing up to head back to the sand box, but this time my wife is moving in with a friend. That means all my stuff is going into a storage. What would be the safest way to store my Arroyos for over a year?   :(  

Im hoping to use a climate controlled unit, but I dont know if Im going to be so lucky. All my bows are 1 peiece recurves. I was thinking of using hard rifle cases, but Im worried that there will be too much pressure on it for that long, and may cause twisted limbs.

Any Ideas?

I was thinking of using a hard rifle case on my recurve just for moving during a PCS move, but couldn't find any long enough.  Forty-eight inches seemed do be the longest I could find in the local Corpus Christi stores.  Instead, I chose to drive to my cousins and store it there for about 3 weeks until we got situated.  
If you do find a hard rifle case long enough, you could cut the foam out in the shape of the bow to reduce the amount of pressure applied over the time you are gone.
Otherwise, you could have them packed at a U-ship-it type store where they could make a custom sized cardboard box.
Whichever you decide, just make sure to keep you head low and come home safe to shoot again!

Can you hang them in a closet at your wife's friend's house????? You could hang them verticaly,unstrung,by the string (like a vertical bow rack)

Take a wire coat hanger,cut a piece about a foot long,then bend a hook to go over the closet pole,then about 4" in from the other end make a 90 degree bend like a "peg" to hang your bow on.

I got a bow at an auction once, the people didn't pay their rent at the warehouse, and the management sold all the stuff from all the defaulted units that day.

The bow was fine. The warehouse was not climate controlled. But then again, this isn't Texas.

I think that putting them in bowsocks and laying them on their sides on a table would be fine for your bows. If you wanted some other way, which would not take up a lot of room, then perhaps a rack which held the bows horizontally would be simple to make.

I quickly looked for pictures, but came up empty. There are gobs of racks on Ferret's web page, and I am sure that someone here has pics of freestanding racks that they can post. I need to get to work.

Thanks for all the sugestions. Do you think it would be okay to put them in a bow sock and hang them verticaly from the draw string on the sock?

That would put all the pressure on the bottom tip. I would hang them so they are in tension not compression.

Hanging is best.  Make a plywood box w/dowel so you can hang them.  Be sure it goes into storage vertically.

My friend who has several recurves stores them in bowsocks and slides them under the bed.  Ya always have a bed so I thought this might work for ya.  Again thanks for your service.
