Zebra wood limbed bow
« on: April 10, 2010, 06:45:00 PM »
I finished my first take down longbow that i made from my own veneers that i ground on my drill press jig.I used .040 black glass and the veneers are non tapered and about .050 thick. The bow came in at 42# 28" which is about what i was hoping for.The wedges are birdseye maple as is a section of the riser.I added a walnut accent strip as well. This is a smooth shooter and has almost no stacking.I came up with my own riser design that i will use again as it seems to flow well with the limbs. This is a 66" overall design.

Wow does that look good.  I really like the looks of Zebra wood and hope to someday make a bow using it.  Great job  :clapper:

This is a picture of a brass centering pin that i mounted by coming in from the back of the riser.Doing the pin this way eliminates the need for a cover plate of any kind on the limb face.

Hi Mike in Eugene...I'm David in Eugene...looks great! Especially for a first! Did you make a jig for this?

I appreciate the compliments./David this is my third bow but i just started building them a few months ago.I build cabinets for a living at a Custom motor coach company so a lot of this is related to what i do everyday. If you are asking about a template for the riser yes i did make one.
