hello , i've backed a boardbow with deer hide that has been tanned. And i put the smooth side out. so far i have just a heavy coat of tru-oil on the bow and hide. Is there something better to use and protect it, or am i committed now to tru-oil.

I have never used tanned deer hide for backing. I have however used deer rawhide with good results. For rawhide backing I use Tru-Oil like on all my bows.

i use tung oil over snakeskins, and i have good results. im guessing the tru oil would be fine for a finish over the deer hide.
