A bow for Dan
« on: May 31, 2010, 08:19:00 PM »
My buddy Dan had been wanting to build a bow.  We decided the long weekend would be a great time to get started.  We took some pics along the way but got busy and missed allot of steps.

We used zebrawood and walnut in the riser red elm and aboo in the limbs.

Limb glued up taped down and ready for the top of the form.
Here it is after about six hours in the oven, notice the cured glue on the limbs edges, very sharp.

Limb tip overlays.

Shaping the limb tips.

Limb tip overlays shaped and ready for sanding.

Here are some pics of the bow after rough shaping and profiling.  Several hours of sanding remain, Dan took his new bow to begin the process.

No Dave I never thought of that.  He did offer to make a stand for my thickness sander, so it is all good,

This Dan was there and the bow turned out just awesome. I am currently working on finishing out the riser and limbs and hope to have it finished and shooting next week! Thanks again Jess for taking the time to mentor me in the building of this beautiful bow!

Here is the sister bow to Dan's.  It is aboo with brown glass, East India Rosewood and aboo riser.  I did't have anything to go with the rosewood and didn't want to wait to get it, decided to try the aboo. It is 62" long and 52# at 28".

You do pretty work.  Please don't take this as a knock but the braced profile, on the sofa, looks like the limbs leave the riser straight and then take a 22 degree bend immediate afterward.  Is it me, the picture or the way you designed the bow?
BTW, a full draw picture would be great to see.

What a beauty Jess.  That bamboo looks pretty good in there I think.  I love that design.
