New Bow Finished!
« on: June 05, 2010, 12:51:00 PM »
First off, I'd like to apologize for the quality of the images. These were taken with my brother's cell phone because my father borrowed the digital camera and he's in New York right now.

Hickory bow. Mostly sapwood with a little heart on the belly and upper limb.

So, the tips were flipped up a bit, originally in the hopes for a static recurve. I accidentally caused one tips to bend more than the other and neither tip enough for it to be considered recurved. Then, to try to even it out, I took away belly wood from the stronger curve resulting in the curve coming out at brace height... I then glued on a small piece of hickory to the back of the messed up curve and saved it.

It shoots well enough with incorrect spine arrows. I'm a terrible shot with it, but a guy at the local archery shop tried it and achieved a 4-5 inch group at 20 yards on his first try.
Some stats: 50#@28" (I only pull to about 27) 61" tip to tip
-How to make a bow-
Step one: Make a pile of shavings.
Step two: Shoot your new bow!

Good job!  It's addicting, ain't it?
I didn't claw my way to the top of the food chain to eat vegetables!

looks good man, glad you were able to patch it up and get it finished.i can see the reflex in the tips so you didnt do too bad, and you got some lessons to use on your next one. youll get used to shooting it, took me a bit with my bend through too but after shooting about 50 or so arrows i figured out what grip it likes and i can do my part.
