kevlar backing?

i read somewhere while researching glues that there was a possibility of using kevlar as a backing. i use kevlar sleeves for work and was wondering if anyone thinks it would work well for backing. i know the stuffs almost impossible to break a strand with your hands, when our gloves snag we have to use cutters to snip them off.

If it doesn't stretch it might overpower the belly.

it stretches slightly, as it is a semi loose knit to accomadate pulling over the forearms.if i place my thumbs with the nails touching each other holding the material, i can stretch it about 3/16".

will do, the stuff is a light canary yellow so im not sure if im going to dye it or not after its glued on. im in the process of trying to find some staves as the local lowes has had some less than good wood for me to work with.

I have looked into this a great deal and found that there is no glue that will satisfactorily stick. One major kayak company tried it and suffered a lot of delamination so they went back to carbon. Jim

And there are others that have been specializing in it for 20+ years.  :D  I still can't believe how light my buddy's canoe is.

I think you'll have to use an epoxy to bond it to the stave

lol.ill try it out on some scrap first to see if it works.  this stuff isnt as tight of a knit as the bulletproof stuff, or the stuff they use in motorcycle riding equipment. i think where i read about using it for bows was rudderbows when looking at bowgrip glue.
