Boo/Ipe with Osage riser
« on: July 08, 2010, 02:57:00 AM »
I finished this a few weeks ago and gave it to my friend Eric (pictured), it is Bamboo backed Ipe, 68" tip to tip, with double knocks. The riser is Osage with a purpleheart accent stripe, and the tip overlays match. It pulled 45 lbs at 27 inches. The profile was reflex/deflex, with 1 inch of deflex and 3 inches of reflex (leaving it 2 inches forward, Did I say that right?) It was 1 3/8 wide at the fades with a pyramid taper to 1/2 inch tips.

Any comments on my R/D tiller?

Sanded in a locator grip at center, and radiused the shelf about 3/4 inch above that. The shelf is cut to center.

I forget which post I first saw with the double knocks, but once I tried it, I love em'. Stringing is a breeze, and everytime I give a bow away, there is no need to buy a stringer, I just cut another piece of 550 cord.

I first tried my hand at traditional bowyering, following Sam Harpers site. I gave it a shot, cause I thought it would be an easy weekend project, and would go faster than trying to build a muzzleloader. A year and a half later, I still haven't found that easy weekend project (or built that muzzleloader), but I truly love all wood bows, and greatly appreciate this site and all of you. I will try to post a few more, now that I finally figured out how to get pictures on here.

Looks very nice, but I would have cut the knocks a little more on a 45 degree.

Great looking bow!

Here is an easy way to get your nock angle right. Cut only the groove across the back of your nock until you get your bow to normal brace height. String your bow and draw in the correct angle using the string as a guide.
