Another bow makes it into the line up for opening day!
« on: July 29, 2010, 11:53:00 PM »
Just finished this one today.

60" recurve drawing 48#s @ 28"

The riser is cherry dyed osage orange. There is a solid osage orange hounds tooth footed into the riser, boardered with hard rock maple and purple heart slats. The limb core is hard rock maple dyed the color of osage orange. Topped off with osage orange and purple heart veneers.

Shoots ok    ;)

There is definitely a home for purpleheart in my heart and you used it awesomely. Very nice shooter you got there.

Dang Kevin that is one sweet bow. I can tell those pictures don't do it justice. Did you dye the riser before or after final shaping? Really well done.
Thanks for showing it.

I have been using osage and purple heart lately too, i love that combination. the way you matched the maple with dye is very cool. great looking bow, makes me really want to get my glass bow form done finally.

Galen, I dyed it all after it was together. Sanded from 80, 100, 120, 180, 320 after 320 I used LOCKWOOD’S WOOD STAIN & DYE with denatured alcohol then very lightly sanded with 400 and 600 then poly finish.

Yep, I agree with you too!  I need a block of instruction on how to make the subject look it's best in a still picture.
I like the look of cherry, but it just didn't sit right with that osage hounds tooth footing. I used the lemon dye. The hard rock maple accepted the dye also, it looks just like osage from the edges of the limbs.
