I use edding paint markers with a fine point. They work very well and don't smear. I apply 2-3 coats of finish before i write the specs on the bow. After that i add another 2-3 coats.

I use India ink (black or white, depending on the bow) and a quill pen. Works great! Like Andy, I apply 3-4 coats first, sign it, then finish over it.

without looking and if my memory is correct..the ones I am using are paint pens from Sakura, but I think they may really have India ink in them..like the other guys said I spray finish first then write specs on bow then spray finish over specs and signature..use the search function and you may find plenty of info.. I hear caligraphy pens and india ink look the best.

I use India ink and a quill pen. If you make a mistake, denatured alcohol removes the dried ink.

I've heard others say they won't use a sharpie because they fade. But I'm thinking they may not as much as you think cause I made a sign that has been in my yard all summer and the black sharpie has not faded in the least. The other colors of sharpie have faded badly and I had to use another medium to replace that lettering but the black that I used has not faded at all.

Another vote for india ink. No problems with it at all.

Use Industrial Sharpies. They'll do better. I also use India ink a lot. Rapidograph pens are great. And good paint pens are a nice touch. Lot's of options.

I've seen a lot of bows that had sharpie specs that are fading. I started out with pain pens. I have since moved to india ink and a very fine quill style pen. My writing is sloppy, and it looks much better when it's tiny!

I use a silver sharpie I modified by trimming the point extra fine w/ a pair of sidecutters on colored glass, and had great luck with a gel pen on the clear glass. Now if only I had better penmanship...
