very interesting idea. id guess it would work just the same as carp or sturgeon as long as the skin comes off easily. i am guessing though it might not be very strong so it would of course be only for decoration as you stated.

All I've used is grass carp.  I used spray poly on it.  I treated it just like snakeskin.  Carp Skinning a Bow

That is some cool stuff John,
Jeff I think that would look great, You go catch and skin a few bigguns and send to me so I can try it.I would not want you wasting your time.(  :D  )
I have some walleye in the shop now but they are short, so I need t figure out how to use them.

I've seen catfish backing on short bodark bows made by Leon Blagg from Sulfer, OK and they sure looked good. Leon made bows for about 70 years. He recently passed away.     Oops, I meant to post this on the cat fish backing thread, sorry

I think the carb backing is pretty neat. If you ever get the muskie put on please post a picture.

I think it would work fine. Wasnt someone asking about using northern skins awhile back? Wonder what these jokers would think about your idea!?!? HAHAHAH!! Some of these people are so fanatic about releasing muskies there almost crossing into the realm of animal rights! See here.

I know of a guy from Minnesota who backed one using skin from a Northern Pike. He posted pix on here and I wish I'd bookmarked them! As I recall, the bow was absolutely gorgeous.
I'm sure a Muskie would be cool too. The natural gray/green tone would make a fine camo.

Hey we got a bunch here in Michigan you can have! And you can tell the local musky crazies I sent ya.

jk the musky is a gorgeous monster. Thankfully our lake st clair is pretty full of em now. But it's torch lake that's got people buzzin.

Same guy caught last year's state record 50+ pounder:

You can probably back a few bows from one of those pigs!
