At the risk of injecting seriousness (I hate it when that happens), there is a formula to the effect that: x(buildalongs) = 1(DVD)

There are so many buildalongs on various sites (my own being one of them (not that mine is one of the real good ones, but I'm pretty sure it's  the longest with the most photos!).   Really study five or six of them and it becomes like a dvd in your head.  (Or maybe that's just my head?)

Other than that, there are the Bingham dvd's... pretty fair, and the dvd of Louie Armbruster (available in the ads in the back of Trad. Bowhunter mag). (The original video was better)

I've seriously thought about doing one, aimed at real beginners (I've done videos in other fields), but I can't find anyone who can devote three or four days to being the cameraman.   It's just too darn awkward trying to do the work, narrate and film alone.

What if everyone got together and did segments? Maybe a different person for each task. One person to show the riser build. Someone else to grind lams. Another person to show the glue-up, so on and so forth. That would limit the amount of time each person had to film. When everyone is finished, one person could take on the editing and put it together.
Experience is something that you do not get until right after you need it!!!

John (Blacktailchaser)

I see you're down in Oregon.   Any time you can get three, maybe four days and come up here, we can build a longbow together, with or without taping.  It'd be a ball.

My buildalong is nowhere near as professional as Kenny's.  It was an early effort, but it was/is extremely thorough (for which read long), starting from buying planks through grinding lams and all the way to the end.  Since I was aiming it at folks like myself who were truly beginners,  tried to show all the problems and mistakes as well as what went right.  No sense in other folks making the same ones I did.  They can enjoy making new ones!

All of my archery stuff is in the Archery Activities section of my personal web site:

 www.dickwightman.com

Take that offer to come up here seriously. I'll put you up in the basement and we'll do nothing but build and shoot for a few days.  I can vouch for the fact that there is simply no substitute for going through a build with someone who has done a few.
