63" T/D Longbow, zebra and osage
« on: August 18, 2010, 08:44:00 PM »
My bow making has slowed but I just finished this one last night.  I made it for a friend of mine and its  the first lefty I have made.

This is a Bingham pronounced design from which I shortened the limbs and riser just slighly.  The limbs have Maple Superaction cores, a coretuff stripe, osage veneers and zebra wedges.  Overlays on the limbs are black phenolic, osage and red glass.  The riser is osage/zebra with phenolic and osage overalays.

It came out to 65# @ 27".  I sealed the pores with tru-oil followed by four light spray coats of Thunderbird flat. That is the second time I used that finishing method and I think it works well.

Here are a few pics.

Looks great Brad.  Glad you found some time to build again, I have always enjoyed looking at your bows.  Everyone I remember looking at was a real work of art, this one may top them all.

That's one of the best looking pronounce TD's I've seen- did you change the stack on this one from what the plans called for(taper-reverse taper)?

that turned out so nice!  Really like the lines on that one, and the thumb rest really sets it off!

Thanks gentleman,

Trux, I did just like you indicated a few months ago and moved the stop pin down on my form to shorten the limbs.  I used the same angle Binham's does and yes I did use the same reverse taper, taper combo....but this time I used .003 tapered lams (as I had those handy).  At the end of the day the reverse taper + the taper cancel each other out thus I do not think the taper rate has much impact, if any.

That wood combination is very nice. I like the curved profile. Nice bow, Brad.
