I Need Pictures
« on: August 21, 2010, 01:38:00 PM »
Hello All
Newbie here. This site is addictive. My question is where can I find pictures of the different woods and other materials used to build laminate bows. I have received a Binghams catalog but its not real clear to me what the different woods look like from their pictures. If there are certain materials that a rookie should not try to use please advise. I intended to start with a R/D longbow but I see in other threads that they are a bit harder. Is the Bingham's straight longbow a good performer? Thanks.

These two sites sell lumber so there may be pictures of whichever wood you're interested in:

Ray,
The only thing harder about building the R/D is getting the riser to fit properly in the form. If you have a disk sander and some patience you should be ok. You can also use a 2x4 to make practice risers with.
The straight limb longbow should shoot in the 160-170 fps range, I think mine shoots in the upper 160's with a 29" draw, they do have some hand shock so use light weight wood in the limbs. Straight limb bows are simple to build, they have plenty of speed for hunting and are very quiet.
I didnt miss, thats right where I was aiming

No problem. You might also try Kenny's Custom Archery. You will not be disappointed. I just picked up some Eastern Red Cedar that is down right beautiful.
