A couple more bows finished
« on: August 24, 2010, 10:23:00 PM »
I posted a couple in progress pics of this bow a while back. I decided to rework it because I wanted a more non-glare finish, and wanted to put a beter radius on the sight window, and narrow down the limbs some.

Here's the final results:

I learned a lot about limb mass vs. performance on this project. Originally, the bow was 62#, and I narrowed the limbs down (significantly) and ended up with 55#.

The part I was surprised about was that shot the same test arrow (603 grains) through the chrono before and after the work, and it actually shot 2 fps FASTER at 7# LESS draw weight. I'll take that!

This is another bow we did off the same form. A friend and I went in half and half on the equipment we needed and this is bow he built:

First bow has a green mountain camo riser and black glass. I got carried away with the dremel and "stippled" the grip. 62" and 55#.

Second bow has a brown actionwood riser with clear glass and I think he used bocote on the limbs, It was last year and I don't remember...  It is also 62" and draws 53#.

It's funny, but people always are offering to buy them whenever we go shoot somewhere and let them try them out.

Dang those are SWEET Machoman!!   :notworthy:

I really like that green/grey/camo laminate on the first one, and that longbow has got me drooling. What wood did you use for the longbow?
Gosh I love that brown with black accents, that is knarly! I like that gradual recurve you put in it. How's it shoot?

The bows actually came off the same form and have an identical limb shape, they just look completely different! The brown one is actionwood with bocote veneers under clear glass. We put black and white phenolic overlays on both.

Good job!  As to the performance boost... that design prefers a narrow limb!  I've found the same to be true in my mild D/R.

Nice bows. The first is very colorful. I like the second one, it's subdued and seems to blend in with its surroundings.
