Chunky smooth-on
« on: August 28, 2010, 03:12:00 PM »
I just gluded up a riser blank with smooth on. After mixing it when I spread it on the wood it had lots of flaky chunks in it. anybody had this happen. I have been using it for years and I always use seperate spoons and never had this happen before, these cans are at least 2 years old. Any ideas ?

thank you

It didn't freeze during winter, did it?  That'll ruin a good epoxy quick.

No its been kept inside the whole time. I used it on a turkish bow just a few weeks ago and it turned out fine. that bow has black glass. I'm worried that if I use it on this bow with clear glass there will inperfection or bubbles.

I only keep smooth on for a year, then buy new stuff. Not worth losing a bow over old glue.

I hate those "paint" style cans with the tamp down lids. I ziploc the cans after I open them and try and get as much air out as possible. Keep them inside also. My temp range IN the shop this year has been 13-125 degree. No glues, paints, or tapes are worth a crap if they are out there from January- July.

I guess I never knew the stuff would go bad. aways used it up in a month or so. Just started building some bows after a couple of years away from it. I will order some fresh stuff. I took the riser out of the oven and it looks like it set up just fine. any thing new out there that works as good? tried bow grip a few times I don't like it much.

thanks for the help
