Something a little different! FINISHED!
« on: September 02, 2010, 08:36:00 AM »
I'm building this one for an old navy buddy in VA.  She is a 60" Ossabaw (pronounced R/D) and will finish at 49@28.  Bubinga limb faces, boo core, zircote riser, gemsbok horn riser overlay, and buffalo horn on the tips.  That zircote is incredible looking to me.  I was really sweating the alignment of the natural valleys in the gemsbok horn for finger grooves, but it worked out perfectly!

Marty, That's a great looker.  The Zircote is an especially nice piece and looks awesome with the horn.

Those grooves are the natural rings on the horn.  I just had to smooth the tops over some to make it comfortable.

This is what a horn looks like.  To use it for this application, you can normally only find one small section that has the right sized grooves.

WOw that was a heck of a gemsbok.  Where did you get the horns from?

Great looking bow to by the way.

I was going to ask who has gemsbock horn laying around to make risers out of, but my question has been answered. All's left to say is WOW! Love the pre-thought. Nice work Apex. You're right, that zircote is amazing.

This is the first time trying to use this type of horn.  I like the way it's turning out though.

No, no, fireball, you never have enough bows, that is only your wife talking.  You really need one of AP's bows to make your collection complete.  Really, that will DO IT, for now.......
Go ahead, only one more bow, just like the one in the picture above.

This will be a great looking bow! I also work on one with a ziricote riser and bacote accents. Real nice figured wood to work with.

What an awesome looking bow, I'm with Jeremy, I'd love to see some pics of the finished bow.
