I wouldn't say the Binghams t/d recurve is "hum-drum." I built one last winter and it really spit 650 grain arrow (9.3 gpp). It turned out a bit heavier than I wanted, and I'm really a longbow guy at heart, so I sold it to someone who could really handle the weight. I never chronographed it, but it was far and away the fastest traditional bow I've personally shot.
Take downs are much more of a challenge than a one piece. Makes one understand why the professionals charge so much more for a take down.
