Are there Any Bow-String Material Lists?
« on: September 12, 2010, 04:26:00 PM »
Do any companies or (better) Archery / Bowyer associations publish complete lists of available string materials, qualities, suggested applications, and / design issues?

I have searched for such a thing for awhile. Certain companies list their products of course but to be able to compare has often been difficult as some are more "forth-coming" in their disclosures, while other companies simply provide advertisement materiel with less factual data.

Has anyone ever composed even an abbreviated list of what's out there now or a more complete selection? (Even an personal opinionated list would be way better than simple product ads.)

Thanks.

The commonly mentioned string materials:

Fastflight:

(unspecified) Dacron:

DF-97:

D-50:

B-50 Dacron:

450+:

TS-1+:

B-500:

Have some available ad-copy but generally no one from the specific manufacturers want to put certain issues in writing. On some I have found "at such & such a continuous weight, stretch has been so & so". But really, the most common source is applied individual opinion on such a wide range of produces (bows) that it very tough to feel some surety that buying spools of xxx is a smart move for an individual bow.

Would anyone with broad experience in certain types like to offer opinions when using one or two types in several applications?
