If it's the nylon stuff it'll be too stretchy.
Get a spool of   B-50   and you'll be all set for good strings.

ive used it for bowstrings, just gotta get the right number of strands and then pre-stretch it before using it on the bow. ive used it on bows up to 50# with the same strand count as B50 strings, bowyers knots in one end helps too if it still stretches but if you prestretch right it shouldnt be a problem

nope. too stretchy.

Artificial sinew is good for sewing quivers, but not much else in regards to archery.

Hey guys, hate to be disagreeable but I have used it for bow strings several times and have had no problems. I have killed several deer with bows strung with artificial sinew. 6 stands makes a string with the same diameter as a twelve strand b-50 string

Artificial sinew can be made out of nylon or sometimes polyester.  I don't think the manufacturers in India or Mexico care what material they use.  If nylon then its too strechy, if polyester, then its the same stuff as dacron.  Trouble is the package isn't always lableled, so is a guessing game.

Considering the price of a roll of artificial sinew and a roll of b-50 is about the same, get the b50.

Artificial sinew is great for wrapping fletchings as well as stitching bowhandles, knife sheaths etc.  It won't go to waste.

I was under the impression all artificial sinew was nylon. With that being said, I've seen it used to make a skein (string) for medieval crossbow replicas. As Lee and walkabout said, if it's stretched beforehand it can be used. As far as that goes though, I don't think B50 stretches as much as artificial sinew does so for my own purposes I use B50 for all of my strings. The one medieval crossbow I made I also used B50 for the skein on it as well, but a pair I'm building now I may possibly use artificial sinew as it does look more accurate.

I thought the same way for years kilt, but I once checked the package and clearly written it said polyester.  I don't remember it it was the Mexican or Indian stuff.

BTW, I think its quite dirty how you were treated over in the planet, I'm not the only one who thinks that.

I agree with Lee ..used it for years with good results... I like the look for Indian style selfbows. I make them ..with one loop end (tied on other end)and hang weight for a day or two. Then shoot with them, I say go for it .... AND YES ..... ITS NOT FOR EVERYONE ...BUT I LIKE IT

I made a flemish one the other day just to practice the flemish string making because I am going to buy some dacron aswell and I prestreched it and it works pretty good.

Maybe I should counter that and say I wouldn't listen to the guys who say to use it.

I think Chris probably has enough info now to make his own decisions on this. It's either going to work well or it's not.
Personally, I'll stick with B-50 or B-500. They're available in colors, including brown if you need a primitive looking string but whimp out on using linen, and they are made for bowstrings.
If you want to use artificial sinew on your bows, go for it. I'm not going to handicap mine.

Artificial sinew works, but will stretch  esp. in heavy weight bows.
