Wassw Gen III, the journey continues...

I've been working on Gen III, cause I wanted to get away from the "semi-recurve" I had going on with Gen II.  I built a new form, added a powerlam and a tip wedge.  Here is an unbraced comparison.  Gen II is on top and Gen III on bottom.

Here is full draw.  I've got her pretty close here, but have some final tweaking to do as I lose another 2-3#.

 

 

I much prefer this limb design.  I'm just not much of a recurve kinda guy.  This limb is much more stable as well.  I hope to shoot her some tonight.

That Gen II is a fine bow, and I've been hunting with it.  When I finish Gen III, I'm gonna sell #2.

Are the limb stacks the same? Do they shoot/draw/feel the same? You know I love some experimentation!! Awesome work Marty. I really appreciate  all you share.

That is going to be more stable and much quieter than the last one, and I don't think you will give up more than 5 fps, which is a good trade.

The limb lams and glass are the same.  I added a power lam to the Gen III that extends 3" past the end of the wedges.  I also added a 6" tip wedge.  This one feels smoother to my 27" draw, but I fear it will stack earlier than the Gen II.  You can see my fears looking at the full draw shots.  Big difference in string angle.  I'll do some testing tomorrow, and hopefully shoot her some.

I did some tinkering this morning.  The draw force curve shows this 60" NTN Gen III bow to be optimal for normal draw archers.  She gains 2.5# per inch out to 28 and then begins to stack.  I'm thinking she should get her best speeds for normal 27-28" draw folks like me.     At the range she really shined.  I'm looking forward to more testing!

These are gonna get put on tonight!  The pattern varies some, but they are pretty close.  I may just use one skin for both limbs, but then I wouldn't have that line down the middle of my limbs.  What do you folks think?

I don't know. you got two snakes with the original intent to do one bow right? Would you always have that nagging feeling when you look at the bow if you use only one and they don't match. Probabably. I hate nagging feelings.

The thing is, they will match better if I use just one skin.  The pattern just won't have that cool yellow/brown line down the center.

I'd use both, that line looks cool and the variation in the skins only adds character.  By the way I've really enjoyed following the your experimentation and development of this line of bows.  Bet she points really easily.

I decided to use one skin and am going on four days now waiting on them to dry!  They are gonna look sharp, if I can ever finish them.
