Drilling riser for stabilizer insert
« on: October 19, 2010, 09:43:00 AM »
I recently acquired a 1967 Ben Pearson Mustang 717.  It's 60# at 28" and it shoots great.

The bow is in pretty good shape but pretty scuffed up, so I plan on sanding it down and refinishing it.  While I have it sanded down I'd like to add an inserts for a stabilizer/fishing reel/wrist sling and was hoping to get some advice.

Has anyone done this before?  The riser is some dense-feeling hardwood and is an I-Beam style riser, so I assume strength will not be a major issue.  Any specific guidelines on how far below the grip I should drill? Just whatever feels comfortable?

Also I'm pulling that sight off and I'm going to put some nice threaded brass inserts in the holes (which just so happen to be the right distance apart for the standard AMO accesory screws)instead of trying to fill them.

Thanks

PS I know how to string a bow, that picture is from the seller.

That's a pretty decent looking bow. It should really be great looking when you refinish it. Pup
