Built a short bow- now with pictures added
« on: October 31, 2010, 02:26:00 PM »
I got the plans for this bow from Brad- thanks bud-
So here is the question-the bow is done except for waiting for the finish to dry- do you all want to see pictures of the build or just the finished bow?

OK here is what it is. The plans are a copy of a herters 46"er. Brad was kind enough to share his plans and as a reference posted a build along earlier this year. This bow is tiny!!

Went with a piece of tigetwood for the riser-

Brown glass, boo and actionwood for the core-

The first big test was getting everything into the form with bow snot on it- could have used more hands for this part- but got it into the form and cooking.

Out and ready for some cleanup.

Cut the string groves and had to see if I could keep a string on it. No major limb twist going on- after pull it a few times I thought it was going to be in the high 40#'s.

So far so good- now for the rest of the overlays.

Should have made a jig for the riser overlays- putting them on turned into another bow snot rodeo but it ended up working.

After plenty of grinding and shaping I made a string for it and took it outside to see how it shot.

Man does it ever fling the arrows, no hand shock and smooth drawing- I still thought it was pulling in the high 40's- so I put it on my scale:

55#@28"

It still needs some more finish but this will give you an idea of what it will look like.

Someday I must own one of those!  Absolutely stunning.  Thanks to you and Brad for posting your work on these fantastic bows.     :)

It didn't have alot of finger pinch at 28"s and you are right hova- that is the high 40's. The first time I put it on the scale before rounding over the limbs it was right at 60#s- I couldn't believe it because of how it felt. I was wanting 55#s and that is where it finished- sometimes it is better to be lucky than good.
