2 piece recurve
« on: December 29, 2010, 10:45:00 PM »
Does the design of a recurve riser/grip lend itself to a two piece bow with a conection such as Jack Harrison did in the article, "One-piede Longbow Makerover" in TradArchers' World? I will be building a two piece R/D Longbow soon and I am now looking at the different types of connections. I like the bow bolt but it is a little pricey for me, so I was looking at the Harrison type connection as I have read several threads on other sites that speak highly of it.

Is that the one made with fiberglass or carbon and resin.  If so I would think it would work okay for a recurve, but have never tried one.  I also think a two pc recurve would be sweet.
I guess a guy could try one on a mock up riser and test it before trying.

I will be doing a moch up to see if it will work. I was hoping someone had already done this and had some advice. If the moch up works, I will be doing a build along.

I've shot longbows made with the harrison type of connection (sleeve and socket as described in his book) before. The connection forces you to have a thicker less "fitted" grip on a longbow. I'm fairly sure it'll have a similar effect on a recurve riser.
That said..I found that I were more accurate with this type of riser  :)  So much so that I've ordered such a 2 piece longbow for myself  ;)

mmm....is it bad if you make your own bows and STILL end up ordering bows from other bowyers too?...I think I might be addicted

This is the Blackwidow take down for their longbow style handles.

I hope it works for you, I have not tried it on a longbow but sure want to soon. A build a long would be great.

I'll be on the lookout for your build along.  I have been wanting to see this for a while now!
