Now I check center mark at end of fades(3" past)to see if I have equal distance to limb edges. This one is good, but if one is smaller, mark all the limb edges here the same. ie; it should be 3/4" to each edge, if one measures11/16,make em all that and your bow will be a little narrow..

Now I mark 5/16 each side of the limb tip mark for a 5/8" tip at nocks, then connect the dots from fades to tips..

As a side note which I forgot to mention, if your tips and center don't line up when you string it, move the tips equal amounts the same direction to bring it to the center mark at riser...

There is a limb marked out,now off to the disc sander with the 36 or 40 grit for about 10 minutes,USE DUST COLLECTION!!

And we have the limbs ground out, I alternate ends and sides so she don't get too hot!!

Now fer some nocks,,I'm just gonna send it to Marty for this step!! LOL  :notworthy:

No, really here we go, The mark square across the limb,I made as soon as I got the new tape on, forgot to say tho. This is a 64" bow,so I measure 32" each way from center on the bow's back along the curves. Then square across the limb, you can use this line for the nocks when the time comes.

Here is a 45 degree starting line...

Mark both sides and carry the mark around the limb, it will show if you are good before you file. It should look like this..

NOT THIS !! (Dramatization, it really wsn't like this)

Stay sharp, Kenny.

Not too bad!!

Then a little rounding here and there...

One side done for comparison..

And strung up,it pulls 54#@28" ,so it is gonna be a couple light....

We'll shape on the handle right after overlays!!

  :wavey:

Are you just using regular old saran wrap? I tried squeezing the glue down like that before baking it on my last bow and kept poking holes in the saran wrap I borrowed out of the kitchen? I taped the holes back shut and happily, was able to avoid a collossal mess.

That is going to be a sharp looking bow.

Thanks guys!!

K30, no Saran wrap is too clingy and soft. I use the cheep best choice stuff from wallyworld, easier to handle and a little thicker I think.
Stay sharp, Kenny.

super nice one Kenny!  me and saran wrap don't get along either...will have to pick up the WallyWorld stuff soon, deer season ends Jan 23rd and bow building season starts the 24th.. K30 I have been using car wax (the stuff in the green can) on my metal pressure strip and form and if any smooth on gets past the saran wrap the wax helps to keep it from sticking. I bought some teflon spray that dried in a couple of minutes and I think it worked good but I went back to the wax

Thanks Dave and Robert,!

Robert ,good point on the wax, just another item I forgot to mention.

Someday I'll do a build without a deadline and photograph every move, heck maybe a video!

Reckon anybody would watch a 20 hour movie with me in it?    Probably have to get a lovely assistant to get any takers!!  :D

I will be trying the wallyworld brand on my next glue up. The wax sounds like a good idea too. Thanks for the tips guys.

Somebody at the UBM auction is going to get a sweet shooting bow! I've had the chance to shoot one of Kennys 64" bows off this form and it smokes and this one is a looker too!
Great work Kenny

Allrighty then!

Put some overlays on tonite.
\\
Here we go, first I lay out where the ends are on the tape...

Then carefully cut the tape,do NOT get into the glass!

Peel tape where the overlays go..

Rough up,I like to use a sanding block to keep everything flat and smooth...

I gathered up all the necessary components and fitted the grip caps...

Here is where these near empty cans of EA-40 come in...

Glued and clamped, I put a pc of masking tape on the end that meets the spot where I cut the tape to keep it lined up endways. They try to slide towards center on me,we'll see if this holds em in place! Also taped the back overlay in place while I glued on the grip overlays...

Stay sharp, Kenny.
