Heat treating bows
« on: January 12, 2011, 09:48:00 AM »
For anyone interested is info on heat treating bows, Marc St Louis has posted a couple of short videos on PA(in the "BOWS" section) showing how he does it. Marc wrote the chapter on heat treating in TBBIV and has studied this process and utilized and perfected it over the years. Marc builds some highly reflexed, high performance self bows and most out of whitewoods, specifically elm.

Thanks Pat, I'm in the process of heat treating an eastern hophornbeam right now.  Will check it out, sure I can learn something that will help.

Thanks AKmud. That will make it easier.
Marc realized that the heat gun made more noise than he expected so you probably won't be able to understand what he says but his technique is interesting to watch. Read his chapter in TBBIV for the how to part.
