That knot scares me. I think I'd have to put a plug in it if someone would tell me how! d;^)

Knot scares me too. I'd never make a bow out of a stave like that, just asking for trouble on down the line.

it was either this or an even bigger one. i originally thought i could leave hte layout wide around it , but it was way out of line. im definitely going to keep that section stiff , and so far so good.

she dropped about 5# today , but is still rediculously heavy. i want to grab a rasp so bad but i know ill end up short...

Round off any sharp or pointed areas around the knot so there is less chance of a splinter raising.

Ok Tragedy has struck my first two bows, so its time to be superstitious and start posting more about my efforts.  I already broke to black palm staves with was really disappointing cause I brought it back from Costa Rica especially for (*#&%@@) and now I'm all out.  And have to resort to bamboo...

It was really sad but at least it broke on me and not my recipient...

I personally wouldnt feel right making a bow out of a stave with a knot in the side like that. Build it anyway but if it lets go and busts I think that (if it were me at this point) I would probably pass the bow I recieved on to my recipient...just my .02 on what the right thing to do would be in order to preserve the integrity of this and future swaps.
I humbly follow in the learned footsteps of those who precede me.

i've left it up to my recipient from the start.the bow isnt to the final tiller point anyways, so its still up to the recip if they want the molle i got.

pat : i was figuring on that , but just wasnt sure if it would cause too much un-natural runout...

Well, I'm getting close now!  I got the strike plate  in and the tips all finished up. Shes to a consistent 320 grit. All that is left is a good finish, some leather, and a bit more shooting in.

Couldn't find the camera yesterday.  I tell you what, I'll search for it and post a few tonight after work.  11 posts without a single photo is not acceptable.

I don't know what's worse... waiting on your bow to show up on the receiving end, or waiting on your bow to make it on the delivery end. I hope my recipient doesn't wait too long to post what they think!

Roy that is just cold. I'm sure your grandson can do better than that, with his pedigree.
Now post some pics of the bow Fish sent you. Makin fun only counts when you say sorry with a pic or two. Or back it up with pics of the grandson doing his thing.

I guess for the most part Pat and I were the only ones on the same page there. None-the-less I had to laugh out loud. I'm sure they'll get it. In a bunch of pieces probably!
