Dick,
Yes I did say light, although there is no chance of this bow being light enough for me. Quilted maple is one of my favorites even though it's a pain to work with. It burns in the drum sander quite easily and soaks up glue like a sponge. I use DER 383(epon)/versamid instead of smooth-on for quilted maple. This bow took 3 coats of glue before it stopped soaking in and would stand on the surface. With smooth-on I always get some dry speckles under the glass, this glue up came out flawless. It was a good day.
I didnt miss, thats right where I was aiming

Some awesome bows coming together here. I always vote for skins too, that pretty yellow wood will still show on the belly! Whoever ends up with that bow Greg's building is a lucky dog. Then again it is looking like everyone that signed ip
for the swap is gong to be pretty happy when the mailman brings the goodies to them.
It is better to be approximately right than exactly wrong.

No-sage, thanks for the info on the bevellok system.  The next time I have some billets to join, I'll be giving it a try.

Very nice work guys!  You are making this difficult for those of us that have very little experience.  I've got a couple of "practice bows" to do and then a little experimentation before I start my trade bow.  Hopefully the experience will get me some skills.

Spacers, end grain covers glued in place.

Extra phenolic ground off.

Fit came out good.  It's hard to get the machining depth perfect so that there are no gaps in between the spacers.  If you go too deep, the halves won't go together, if you go too shallow, there'll be a gap between the spacers.  I left a bit of a gap and let the epoxy fill it up while the spacers got glued on.  You use the joint to hold the spacers in place when you glue them on.  That's when you can make it back into a one piece if you're not careful.

Alignment is good and the stave feels very solid when the joint is fully seated.  No movement side to side when the stave is shaken.

And after all this work, I've got a takedown stick.

Hope I can make it into a good bow.... if not.... plan B.

Well no-sage,
it is for the bowyer on the go who can lug around a full lenght stave. Does it come with a carring case.
It looks like you have done this before. I cant wait to see more.
God Bless and Happy Building,
Kelly
