Well folks, my trade bow just blew. HHB 65" t/t had, it tillered to 55# @28" was shooting it in when the top limb exploded into 3 pcs. with no warning.  There was a small pin knot on the edge of that limb that seems to be where it left go.
Started the next one, hackberry with flipped tips.

Sorry Dan. Better luck with the next one.
Will you post pics of the break from a few angles. Breaks can be great learning tools.

should be a sticky for broken bows. call it the experts textbook or something...

picked up some t-nocks (5/16 and 11/32) , some string wax , some braided bohning serving , and a couple craft items (feathers were a waste of money when i saw pink 4" parabolics for 4.99 @ ripoff mountain) . instead i paid 4$ for 12 imitation eagle feathers. they will work just fine , but those precuts were purrrrrrrdy. almost got guinea feathers , but they looked a little rough.

osage is "drying" out since bark removal.perfecting my string making technique.

keep the pics coming , and that hackberry sounds like it will be nice.

Got a bit of scraping done today.  Not a bunch but I had another pressing matter in a junior high kid itching to get his bow done.  I've got it to a brace height of 1 1/2".  There are a few dips and jumps from cutting out a couple of knots.  I heat straightened the limb without the swoops and it looks to track fairly well but I did notice it starting to twist.

I think I'm supposed to take wood off the high side if I remember right.  I vote of confirmation would help me jump on the next step.  Just adding some pictures for the frequent viewers like me  :D

I got a chance to see kerry's swap bow today. The skin looks great. It's gonna make for one happy fellow!

goose your bow is coming along nicely. if you have a tillering gizmo it takes some of the guesswork out of it. eric krewson came up with a great tool no doubt. ive been using bernies. ruddy

yeah the gizmo helps lots , ive been trying to shape mine a little more finely , so that it goes up into the fades , but the only way i have gotten it to work in the fades is to put a hole close to one edge , like an inch in. its not finalized so if you try it and it screws your bow up , dont blame me.

today is one of those blah days. i have b50 , wax , serving , and some nice new t-nocks , but i think i may have set my motivation down somewhere and im not sure where...

It's getting tough to keep up with the different posts/bows!!!
Kerry, nice looking job of skinning that one. I was wondering where the wife is? I showed the pic to my wife and the first thing she said was, " In the kitchen. And such a nice kitchen, too!"
Sorry about the blow-up, Dan. Glad you're okay. Better luch with this one.
Goose, looks good. Where do you get your 'sage from up there?

Red hill, my wife is into bow building as well, she doesn't yell to much about it as long as i clean my mess up.

Thanks everyone for the nice compliments, I just hope my recipient likes it.

Hova: Definitely have a tillering gizmo.  Great item.

Red Hill: My family has farms in Northwest MO that I was able to cull some big chunks from during deer season this year and last.  Some of it is dry enough to start working on.  I know I drive by a plethora of horseapples right near my house on private land for sale and they want to keep them.  I've already asked  :(

Ok here's whare im at.Pics shold tell the story.BUT PLEASE TELL ME URAC 185 SHOULD LOOK LIKE RUNNY P-NUT BUTTER WHEN MIXED UP!Beacause thats what mine looked like.I mixed 13-100 ratio like the can said by weight in grains.I then spred it on with a pop sickle stick to both faces of each piece. Then wrapped in shrink wrap and clamped.I guess well fined out in the morning if it worked.

Broken bow pics.   Still haven't got the sizing down yet. My thoughts are that it broke at the small knot on the edge.   Thanks in advance for your comments.
