Thanks for the words of encouragement guys!!

Greg, that sure is a beauty, I'd be honored to have it come my way.

Formerbutcher, any idea what caused yours to blow?
Like you, I have several in the works, next up is the hackberry with the flipped tips.
I'll try to get a pic of it on the tree later this evening......Dan

That is great Greg!  A beautiful combination for sure!

I'm heading back to the drawing board......

Got mine tillered out to around 22" and she was coming in pretty light then to top it of started developing a hinge.  There is no way I can make weight after fixing the hinge so back to the start!  :(

I'll make this one in to a light bow for one of the kiddos at the local shop so all is not lost.  :)

Here are some pics of the second round.  It is hackberry 67" t/t, pulling just over 45# @28".  Wanted a little more weight, hopefully when I heat treat it, it will pick up a few pounds.

Darn, Greg... that's a gorgeous bow!   You had to go and show the poundage, though...  until that pic I could still hope it was below 30!  :^)   Some lucky guy's gonna be happy!

Well I thought about it and said I can, so I mixed up some glue  for this blow up,

did a little sanding and piecing back together and this is what I came up with,

hope it hold up this time.  :archer:

Im starting over my self. Bow came out of the form with nice glue lines.Everthing looked great(other than it came out very heavy).I started tillering.First floor tiller, then moved to my tillering tree on the wall.I first started trying to get the limb tips to roll out.(this is a r/d bamboo backed hickory with a yew core).I kept taking a little wood off at a time and exrcising the limbs at least 30 times between wood removal, and I never drew it over my target weight.Tiller looked good and even but I could not get the tips to roll open far enough past the riser so I could get a short string on it.(I think I put too much reflex (3.5")in it with too little deflex(3/4"),the tips just did not want to come past the handle)Finally after many hours of tillering the limbs started rolling open.As soon as they opened all the way up to all most a strait out position(again they were both still even)they just layed down and the bow lost 15#'s instantly. The limbs did not hinge or break. But at this point I had a stupid attack and thought dang this bow is going to come out to light.Instead of trying to put a short strung on it i took in to the band saw and cut the riser off of it.im now trying to glue an 1/8" lamb of osage on the belly to see if I can save it.We'll just have to see what happens.Ill just have to start another bow.

Scott, Looking at the pics of your glue up I think where the limbs reflexed was too abrupt/angular.  R/D's can lose weight quick if your not careful.

Wow, sorry about the fellas that had bad luck and broken egos with those bow explosions.

That is making me nervous, just like Hova I think I need to burn some sage around in my garage and have the local minister come over for a prayer meetin'...lol

Greg, you hit my draw wt. and draw length perfect with that bow, I'm going to be real proud to give that beauty a nice home!

Just kiddin' you did an awesome job and that riser is just too cool. I've never seen a wood that is almost mesmerizing to look at like that before, kinda like a 3D effect? Good choice.

Good looking bows! And good looking blowups. It is kind of an adrenaline rush when one go's bang but it is still disheartening. Part of it though   :D
