Nice bow Nate. Too bad it came in under weight. You could add a thin osage or ipe lam to the belly and retiller it. I gained about 10# on a 60" osage static recurve and it didn't take much of a lam to do it.

Pat, the underlay is a good idea but considering I was going to make a bow for this other fella I'll set this one aside for him. You know him Pat, he sent me an incredibly unexpected gift recently.

Oh yeah, the boo was great. Those were two excellent pieces you sent me.

Nate that bow looks great. I don't know about your trade person but I know that I shoot several different weight bows and wouldn't be dissapointed with a few pounds under.
Very sweet looking bow.

This bow still came in under weight even after piking it. 42# @ 28". I'm thinking about an underlay like Pat suggested for Nate. I'm thinking about a tapered lam from 3RA. They have walnut, bocote, cocobolo, purple heart, sapele, teak burma and wenge in .065" tapering to .001". They also have osage, zebra, red elm and bamboo in .060" to .001".

Does the lam need to have straight grain? The walnut would have good compression strength also the osage and elm any of them would look good too.

Straight grain would be best but the compression side isn't as picky as the tension side. I'd also go with the osage. Some of those tropicals might have good compression values but I've not used them.
The lams I used were scraps that were given to me. I just sanded one side smooth, sanded the belly flat and smooth, glued them down in reflex and retillered the bow.

The bottom limb looks great, but the top limb needs a little work. But your already under your weight. Tiller it out for someone else and make another bow. Or add a belly lam. They sure bump up the weight.

Thanks guys. The picture isn't the best but I thought the upper limb looked like it needed some more work also. I agree with Pat on the osage, or maybe elm. And I was mistaken on the thickness of the lams. I can get the osage or elm in a .095" thickness so I will go with that.
I don't work with decimals much so I figured it out to be about 3/32".
I've never tried this before. Should be interesting.

I'm back home with my lams. I found some flat grained osage and they are 1 1/2" wide. The bow is a flat bow and the lams are about 1/16 shy on each side of the lams of being as wide as the bow at the fades. It will have more of a crowned belly which it isn't suppose to be for a pyramid design but I don't think it will hurt anything really.

At my count stiks, 8 bows have been recieved, I dont think I missed any, and 1 enroute.

Just a thought but could we start a thread for the received bows. I would love to have a post with a picture and recipient of the bow at full draw just to get an idea of what everyone has been given. I'm sure I'll get lost trying to find them otherwise. Could be a potential reference that would be easy to obtain pictures from if someone wanted to document or follow up with what has been given.
