Glad you like the hickory bow, Caleb. Sure hope it serves ya  well and you have a great time hunting with the points. I forgot to mention the wooden peg isn't glued in for an arrow rest in case you want to remove it . Thanks for your kind words, Gene.

Thanks for all the compliments on my swap bow everyone!

I have to put a plug in here for kennym.  I've purchased lams from him for my last three builds now, including my swap bow.  Beautiful wood, excellent quality, fast service, and just an overall pleasure to do business with.  Someday I might start grinding my own lams, but until that day, Kenny will be my supplier.

I'm starting over (again...).  The HBRO I had going was 65" tip to tip and was looking good till I got out to about 25".  I think fixing that knot ruined things for me.  I'm not pleased with the tillering and if I keep at it I won't make weight so I'm shelving it and moving on.

I'm going to try the same combination at a full 70-72" and hopefully I won't find another hidden knot!

JSMOFFITT03,
Some in this years swap had less time than that, one bow under their belts if that.

the purpose is to share and learn from each other, and to have fun.

JSMOFFITT03,

I was one that was convinced to join in this years swap with exactly one bow made at that point.  I have since built one more and have three in the works.  Two of them are practice for the third that will be my trade bow.  I was convinced that trying hard is all it takes to please people here in this bow swap.  I hope it turns out that way.

I'm not very good about taking and posting pictures but I hope to show what I have done sooner rather than later.  I'm about ready to mix up some Urac for a glue-athon that will include handles, backing and my first try with billets.  It will be putting my supply of clamps to a big test.  My wood species used have been red oak, hard maple, hickory and cherry.  Wish me luck!  I hope I provide someone else half the fun I am having building and learning.

Thanks to everyone here for providing tons of info.

JSM, I've built/broken about 16 bows thus far.  Six are still flinging arrows and 1 I hunt with. I watched from the fringe last year but decided to try this year. It's a blast.  The folks on this site are more than helpful.
Like Pat said, next January jump in.

Here's an update on my trade bow.  I've piked it to 65" tip to tip and am right on track to hit the recipient's weight.  Here's a picture showing it drawn 2" short of the intended draw length on the tree.  The left limb is the bottom limb, and therefore a bit stronger near the fade.  It draws even in the hand with low heel pressure (which is what I've guessed my recipient shoots from previous posts). I've put about 50 shots through it, and it's flat after unstringing, settling to about 3/4" of reflex when relaxed.  I heated 2" of reflex in originally and began with a stave 68" tip to tip.  The tips are a bit wide and stiff at this point in case I decide to flip them a touch.
