I am not particular regarding the type, design, or material used, I shoot and build many of them.  The primary use for all of my bows is hunting.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Well I guess I will chime in here also.
I have done what most of you done and tried to find out as much as possible about my person by reading their posts so... I'll do my best to build a bow for them.

If someone is wondering I will shoot anything that flings an arrow so....

As for what the bow will be used for... every bow I make for myself is made to HUNT. By that I mean thats my main thing. When I shoot in the back yard I'm HUNTING (as least in my head) when I shoot 3-d, I'm HUNTING, When I draw one of my bows in the house, shop, yard, or woods I'm HUNTING. Some of my bows look like they have been hauled around in the back of the truck for years,(some have) some look they just stepped off the showroom floor but they get hunted just like the others when it stikes me to take them to the woods. Do I abuse any of them, NO I use them for what I think they were made for... to HUNT and SHOOT.

The one request I have is a handle that is as narrow as possible. How narrow? 2in or 3/4in. As narrow as your comfortable making it. I  have a "factory defect" on my bow hand and a narrow handle usually works better for me. But don't make it any narrower than your comfortable making it.

Whoever is building for me don't get stressed out over it just put forth a good effort and it is and will be appreciated.

I think I have rambled long enough so I'm heading to the shop.

Happy building!!!!
David

I'm a big target archer, with a healthy love for hunting.  I mostly shoot and make elb~ish bows but love to shoot any bow I can get my hands on. However after some research, it seems that my bowyer has a very different style.  I can't make any promises, but I plan on trying to adjust my style to try and fit.

Good thread going here: I'm going to try to deliver what my guy wants as well. I'm pretty new to this whole tradbow world and am still learning lots. What I really hope for out of this swap is a different style bow than what I make (glass r/d longbows so far) that can help me become a better bowyer. Having said that, I dig those really cool osage longbows that I see others building and will hopefully be starting on a self bow or two this year myself.

Already having fun with this swap and I haven't even started building yet.
It is better to be approximately right than exactly wrong.

I plan on hunting with my bow. Whether it ends up being whitetail or frogs kind of depends on what my builder decides. I can't be picky as excited as I am. I'm looking forward to my first custom bow not built by myself!

I would be happy with any bow I get. I use mine primarily for hunting and even 3D shoot and practice with hunting in mind. Even an extra long bow is good for hunting in some situations so that isn't any issue either. I do prize quiet above most other qualities.

Have fun everyone!!

It's time to start making sawdust. I've picked out a stave and selected the power rasp as the tool of choice. That's red analine on the bench from my last arrow making project not blood, It serves as a reminder to be careful.

Well, maybe not. How about zebra and wenge for the riser with quilted maple limbs.

First I like to say. This is a good thread. Some put this type of info on the sign up. I think a thread is the way to go. With 80 plus bowyers I am just hopeing I did not get a lefty confused for a righty. Buy all means put it in the sign up but it may get lost.
The bow swap to me means first and for most Fellowship. The novice like me post here and learns, and will learn more if a veteran bowyer gets it and give em feed back.
The veteran can also get a bow they my never build but my end up liking it.

Ever time I come on here I see a bow that I think I must try to build some day.
Have fun is the second part of the build but goes hand in hand with the first. I have and am happy to ask a few question for you.

It is my pleasure to do my small part, and a thousand welcomes for every thank you I got.

Now  I have to go update my thread and get some sleep.

God Bless and Happy Building,

Kelly,

p.s. before I forget for next year I like BBI, BBO, BBH, HBI, horse bows, long bows, osageself bow, glass bow, them ones popping up latley with the wide yet short working limbs and the long static tip, Snaked skins, fish skins, BBB, and hmmm I sure I will see some durning this build I will love.

so heres the damn locust i just had to cut...

paper thin rings , mixed with hardly any difference in color in the rings , is going to make this a miracle to pull off.... i may have already gone too deep on the one end looking for a ring to show up , but we'll see. worst case scenario ill have to do something along the lines of hickory/cherry board bow kind of deal. its still early , i may be able to salvage it...

kinda hard to see the twist , but its almost 180degrees difference in each end. im sure some heat could fix this , if only i could find a ring. got the cambium off most of it , but then got sidetracked to trying to find a ring. maybe a good day will come up and i can concentrate on it. i just wasnt in that place today.

what are you guys up to today...

two things...first off , ttt.

second , i think everyone in the swap should post what they use their bows for. i know we dont have everyone on here.

not that i dont think people wouldnt enjoy what was sent to them , and thats how i interpret the ones who have not posted here...that they dont mind what they get. i just know it might give someone that little bit of a nudge one way or the other...

Well this is a nice post. I like each person being an individual.I would be just plum glad to have whatever my builder wishes or can build the best and easiest. Or whatever he's good at.Just saying I haven't built very many bows. When I look at what some of you do, man I want to go hide. Just aim to do the best I can for my draw. Mabye who ever got my name will autograph it and date it too. When I'm old I'd have a lot of you guys work and special friends of trad Gang. Please bear in mind the most skilled craftsman started where this newbie is now. I appreciate all you guys and ladies.

I think part of the rules of the swap is it must have the makers and receive-ee's names on it.
