Ha Dback you sound like me.....no wheels. I need to get on here more often but I have a problem of just lurkin and not posting.....I'm suppose to have some power in the new shop within the next few weeks so lookout. I'm not picky at all...if it bends and shoots what more could you ask for. I plan on building one from some sorta West Texas wood.

I found 3 staves that I will choose from. I will make a 60" static recurve(50#+/-@28"). The staves are osage, HHB and elm. I know I can make one with the osage, I have made at least two already. My avatar is one of them. I have worked both HHB and elm very little. I know both are capable so I guess I am too. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

I highly recommend everybody take the time to research previous posts made by their perspective recipients; it will help with many of your decisions.  I took the time and read numerous posts made by my recipient and it helped significantly with determining the style and numerous other particulars regarding the final specifics.  Fact is, I spent the afternoon and evening thinking about the bow, and even built it….at least in my mind.  Golly darn, this has me excited and it may be the first time I actually take and post pictures while building one of my bows.  It will be a week or two before I get started on the bow, and with the design, it will take a few months to get it built, so don’t hold your breath.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

I'm not picky. I spend most of my time stumpin and chasin whitetails. I started when I was kid with a red elm selfbow, then moved into a kodiak T/D, and most recently have been loving my 58" kanati. I hunt out of my tree saddle (which is why i like the shorter kanati) and still hunt when it's windy (which is about everyday in Kansass).

Yes sir Hova. Signing is part of the deal your bow that you build must be signed and dated 2011 TG Bow Swap.

Everyone has some real good views in this threas and that's make this whole thing great is that not one of them is wrong.

Just have fun and build some bows. The great thing about doing this here is I know the character Trad gangers is A+ #1 so it will all be good.

Im happy with any type of bow.I deer hunt as well as target and stump shoot. The only thing I would ask if possible that the bow have some type of arrow shelf on it.I too did some reserch on the person im building the bow for.Im glad I did.It appears he/she likes more of a hill style grip. Were I prefer more of an locater style grip with a thumb groove.I think its a great idea to reserch who your building the bow for it makes it so much more personal.Plus if possible I want to build a bow that fits them and one he/she would enjoy shooting.

I generally lean towards a 62"-66" bow but as many others have already said, they're all good and it's a lot of fun shooting something different. So it really doesn't matter what type of bow my bowyer wants to make for me.

It has been fun though researching the person that I'm building for.  I feel like I've gotten to know a fellow member quite a bit better and have enjoyed some of their insights.

I have the 60" elm stave almost to floor tiller. It has a few issues I have to deal with first before I bend in the recurves. I have only worked elm once and it was years ago. I'm not sure which method to use to straighten and add recurves to elm so I'll study that. I love my 60" osage static recurves and am looking forward to trying it out in elm.
As of now it is 60"t/t, 1 3/4" at the fades and out  12" to 1 1/2" then tapering to 1" just before where the recurves will start, 6" from the tips. The limbs will beny right up to the handle and she will pull around 50#@28". Maybe I'll make her ambidextrous to throw a monkey wrench in the works. d;^)

Okay - Special Note to My Mystery Bowyer...

Please provide a bow that hits the bullseye (or kill zone) on every shot.

Just kidding... sort of...

Whoever builds for me has one imperative!  Enjoy the process and learn something... oh darn.  That was two...

Hunting, practice... Just plain ol' shooting. I'd like to go to some 3D shoots too. I'm going to be happy with whatever I get, I just hope my recipient is happy with the bow I make them. I'm not going to ship my finished bow unless I think they're going to be happy with it. If I don't think they'll like it, I'm going to start a new one for them, and keep going until I make something that they'll be proud of or the must-ship-by date rolls around.

A bunch of us aspiring bowyers get together and draw names then we make a bow to give to the person we drew.  We keep the names a secret until the bows are sent out so it is a surprise who is building for who.

The names have been drawn for this year so you will have to wait till next January to get in on the next one.  It is a lot of fun (this is my first on TG, but I have done two others on Archery Talk).
