Cedar in Riser??
« on: January 22, 2011, 06:40:00 PM »
I know cedar wouldn't be a good idea for an entire riser but what about a .5 inch cedar lam in the middle of some hickory?? itd have .5 and .75 in of hickory around it. Should i put phenolic on it? thoughts appreciated.

Also is walnut a good riser wood?

Brandon............

I use a lot of walnut in my risers as accents, beautiful wood and also use walnut for lams, makes a fast bow. I like walnut incombination with IPE for strenth. I have used cedar in a few risers and it works good as an accent as you suggested. I would use more if I had a good supply. I would be afraid to use either one without some lams to strenthen the riser.
