Hi there.

Newly joined Brit here. I predominantly shoot target archery, but I have recently bought a custom Border Black Douglas for unmarked field shooting and hope to pick up some tips here and there.

GR, where will you be staying when you are in the UK? Maybe we could try and organise a 3d shoot where a bunch of us could meet up!? Is anybody here a member of the NFAS?

Leopard, I have a problem with joining clubs when in my opinion they dont do nothing for you but want to take your money...
When i first arrived in the uk i enquiered about clubs and got nothing back exept for the joinin fees you start asking what are they about????
Why can I go to Scotland and shoot with Border Archery and not worry about a membership cause the club pays, down here all they want is  my money, no asking to join just if you want to shoot you better join... BS.
I still hope to be able to meet up with you guys...

Havoc1 - it's because of public liability insurance. Border Archery (and some other clubs as well) have insurance policies they've taken out themselves and therefore can allow guests who aren't members of a central governing body to shoot at their discretion.

However, most clubs do not have their own insurance, and therefore rely on the insurance offered by the governing body they are affiliated to. If you're a member of another club affiliated to the same body, then it's usually just a matter of paying a visitor's fee. If not, then you aren't insured and they can't let you shoot without invalidating their insurance.

Hope this helps explain things  :)

I'm in the UK, just on the edge of London.

What sort of bows are you all using, is it mainly stuff from the US or stuff sourced from the UK. I ask partly out of interest and also because I'd be keen to do some trades with people here in the UK if possible, as the logistics of sending stuff to the US puts most people off.

For the record my trad stuff includes...

ACS CX (I have another new one on the way)
Black Widow LAO
Black Widow SAG
Roy Hall Navajo
Border Black Douglas

I know Joelondon and we both shoot with a number of like minded individuals who generally shoot American bows, mainly Herb Meland Pronghorns but also Black Widows, ACS etc.

Hello fellow UK.Tradgangers.

Im on the east coast of Scotland,in the Kingdom of Fife.

I'v been shooting Trad for 28 years now.

Shoot a Border Osprey Longbow 60#.

Had a Border Black Duglas Ultra

Have a Checkmate Hunter 2 60# up for trade(left hand).

Just ordered a Blacktail Elite VL TD 62", 60#@28 in Cocobolo footed with Bocote and Bocote veneered limbs. Only a year to wait!

Shoot 600grn arrows, FOC 28.6% with 340grns up front. Thanks to the Doc.

I'v shot with Sid at Border several times and I am trying to shot there more often. Three young kids make it kind of difficult though.

We have a very good local field course up here (Lone Wolf Archers), if any of you guys are ever up this way give me a shout and we'll go shootig.

If anyone is going to shoot at Border in the near future let me know and I'll see if I can make it to.

I'm curiouse to know if any one knows when and where the next IBEP course will be held.
Need to get this ticket!!!

Its good to see so many of you here!

Spent most of it on strong drink, fat women and archery, but the rest I wasted.

Where in the UK are you and where are you from?

joelondon
How's the Blacktail shooting?
I was realy tempted with the Myrtle both as a footing and as a veneer.
I'm toying with the idea of Bocote back and Myrtle belly for the limbs,I have to speak to Norm about that.
