locust?

Hey everyone I was just wondering if anyone had any feedback or had every heard of Honey Locust being used to build bows. Thanks :)I maybe have found a free supply of it. I believe it is Honey not Black.

Got some pics of it? Is it lumber or logs? Do you know what kind of pods and thorns are on it?

I do not have pics but it would be as many trees as I can cut down.

You dont sound so sure about if it is honey or black. Does it have a lot of big nasty looking thorns or ones that look like those like a rose. look on the limbs if it is big stuff and you don't see any on the trunks.

Does the trunk have smooth bark or dark furrowed bark?

Ok so we looked at all different pictures of the two bark and couldn't positivily identify which it was using that but due to our location (wisconsin) and growing conditions (in a swamp like a weed) we have reached that it is Honey locust.

UC16, if the tree has smooth, dark gray bark, and large clusters of thorns, and I mean long, mean, looking thorns, on the trunk, you have Honey locust! Also, look for seed pods, shaped like bananas, around the base of the tree.

Black locust, no thorns on the trunk! I have both types on my property and in my area. Have also cut alot of it, since a kid!

Yes, it has been used for bows. Howard Hill Archery, uses it for lams. and sure others do to.

Also heard of folks using for selfbows.
