« on: January 31, 2011, 11:24:00 PM »
Hello fellas just have a quick question...which of the two is better wood for limbs on a shortie recurve. Osage or Yew. Pros and Cons welcome.

Thanks in advance!!!

Selfbow or Glass bow?
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Never worked with yew but osage is hard to beat for any kind of a bow.

I've made bows out of both and lean toward Yew.

Yew tends to be lighter weight than Osage.
yew is very good in a D style bow, but i've seen many flat bows. Also made a few Osage bows, both D shaped longbows and flat bows.
all preformed very well.

yew was easier to get in WA when i lived there. Osage is easier to get where i'm at now...
both are great bow woods.
from my experience, Osage is easy to work with dry heat, yew is easier to steam.
either way, i think it boils down to what is easier to get a hold of...
