Dang limb...need a lilttle help (updated pics on page 2)
« on: February 04, 2011, 06:56:00 PM »
Hiya fellas
I got another bow on the tree and the left(lower)limb is giving me troubles. Not sure if its me or what? But I can see it stiff towards the last 2/3's of the limb and no matter how much I scrape that sucker won't bend. I am using Eric's gizmo, but just can't get it.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

It looks a lot thicker than the other. Just go slow and it will go.

Scrape it mid limb on to the nocks. Count the scrapes say 20 or so. Exercise at short pulls 20 times or so  and check the tiller. Never draw a bow beyond what it takes  to expose a problem. Jawge

Thanks guys...I was just getting a little frustrated. I just checked it with my caliper and one side is a touch thicker (so its got a tiny twist, hence the thicker look) But i will keep scraping...dang wood has to put up a fight   :knothead:

George thanks for that tip. I didn't know not only pull to fix the problem. So that may through a wrench in some where. But I have plenty of weight to play with.

When all else fails remember...

Where the limb bends enough leave it alone.

Where the limb doesn't bend enough remove some wood.

That simple rule can get you through most questions.....or so I read...lol

the gizmo the gizmo the gizmo
If I were roy form PA I would draw in the fade area on the left and say leave it alone. remove every think else on that limb. use the gizmo and remove wood were it tells ya.

Left limb does look very thick. The twist could be coming from one side of the limb being thicker than the other side. Always make sure to keep both sides of the limbs the same thickness.

I'm done coloring Kelly, yunzs always make fun of my pictures:)

Looks like you got the limb bending in the fade first and have a pretty good hing there.

The gizmo won't tell you anything about the fade so I leave this section stiff until the last part of my tillering process.

Hinged fades are real hard to correct.

You have a hinge in your fade.  Because of this the rest of the limb will not want to bend until you make it weaker then the spot where the hinge is.  You are going to end up with alot of set unless you are very careful not to pull to hard before you correct the limb.

Patience my friend, patience.  And lots of exercise between scraping sessions, lest it springs on you.
Take a kid hunting!

Thanks John...at times I can feel myself moving too quickly. Especially when I know the bow is getting close. But I know that's the time goin fast will screw the pooch.

Roy glad you did it anyway I am just jealous that I can't draw as purty as that. I have to agree with tenbrook they help us newbies out. You forgot my mustache though, must be me when I am at home and the wify. She makes me shave them off.
I hope you get it bending in the rest of the limb. If not you will have a reason to start another.
