Have a BBO almost done....
« on: February 22, 2011, 11:35:00 PM »
66 tip to tip, came in at 56 pounds, Osage riser with Buffalo Horn Tip overlays. Tillered out nicely, should have taken pictures while doing that, but sometimes ya just get wrapped up in what yer doing:) Have 4 coats of Tongue Oil on her, might do five, need to get the leather rest and deer hide grip on her. I'll take some pictures of that for sure.

Real nice Roy!

Probably just the pic, but looks like one limb needs straightening. Or it could just be the new meds I started yesterday messing with me this morning!!!

I've got Minwax walnut stain, will that do the same thing, or is it different somehow? I'm not real up on my stains, my dad is but he's been a wood worker for years.

It should work Chris, try it on a piece of scrap or where the handle will be wrapped and see.

My biggest problem has been getting the back of the bow (ring side) to take any stain. Are there some ways around that?

Art ya old bugger, you were correct, the limbs were a little off center. I have noticed that when in the shop working on bows, they look good. But when I come up to the computer and load in the pictures, I see more things.

So I laid a string down the center, tip to tip and seen what needed done. Clamped her in the vice and put the weight and heat gun to her. First the bottom limb and then a second time on the top limb. Looks a lot better, Thanks Ole Timer:)

Thanks Glenn, the tips did not always look that good. Practice makes perfect. The more ya do it, the better ya get. All the mistakes of the past, make you put more thinking into it.

I wish you would have gotten some pics of the straightening process, I'd like to have seen how you go about it. Everybody has their own ways, but I'm always open to better ways of doing things. I don't think your ever too good or too old to pick up new tricks.
