Refinishing old bow
« on: February 23, 2011, 11:07:00 PM »
I've got a used Bear Montana coming, and I'd like to refinish it in camo.  It has some scratches on the handle, and I was wondering how to smooth them out.  As long as the scratches are only in the surface finish, could I use fine grit sand paper or perhaps 000 steel wool, then smooth on super glue before painting?  Going to use a base coat of flat black, some painters tape sections, then flat tan over it, peel the tape off, for a ASAT type camo.  Can anyone spot any mistakes in my plan?

No responses makes me wonder how I've offended this forum.

I don't see why it wouldn't work.  I have refinished a few bows, always sanded off all the old finish and put on new.  If your are going to paint over it I wouldn't  do a complete refinish job.  I would try exactly what you said.  Be sure and put up some pics when your are finished.  Good luck, bet it will come out real nice.

There is a post on the Pow Wow titled Camo Job on the Cheap that did essentially what you are talking about.  Give that a look.  It came out very nice.  I'd post the link but don't know how to do that.

Sounds like a plan that will work nicely. I'm with Jess, just clean up the scratches and put the paint on and yes post pics.
