Bamboo back ??
« on: March 01, 2011, 09:22:00 AM »
When doing a multi layer all wood bow with a bamboo back, whats the best way to glue it all up.  I realize that the BB needs to be whole with all the nodes intact.  So if I were wanting to lay everything in a form and glue it all up at once, how would I do it with that bamboo on the bottom?

I've not tried this with boo but when I add choke cherry bark to a self bow(radiused back) I use a piece of blue foam board as a pressure strip. The blue board has enough give to contour around the boo nodes and rounded crown but still enough rigity to maintain good pressure along the bow.

I was thinking something like that but along the lines of cushion foam.  That foam board doesn't sound like a bad idea.

Are you gluing the riser in at the same time?

I was going to try to do this (boo on bottom) with the modified KennyM form that I just used. I decided it would be too hard to keep the boo from rolling to one side and causing bad glue lines or twisted limbs. I glued the osage lams, a parallel and a taper together with the power lam in between them 1st. The next day I glued the boo on the osage using the top of my workbench and blocks under the limbs to retain their reflex. Ended up with great glue lines.
