Belly lam to selfbow

I have an osage that I want to to sinew, and add a belly lam too.  Its 30lbs at 28" now.  Dead flat belly.  

First I wanted to put a bison horn lam on. But figuure out thats tricky.  
so thinking of adding an osage lam of say less than 1/4".  

Anybody ever done this?

I added a Argentine osage belly lam to an osage static recurve I made. The bow was originally built within 2 months of when the tree was cut and even though if felt dry and worked like dry wood it took cinsiderable set and eventually fretted  on one limb. I ground down the belly to below the frets and added the Argentine belly slats. The belly slats were given to my by David Knight and were scraps from his bow building. They were 1/4" at the most and tapered or nothing. I used Urac. Before the additional of the belly lams the bow was 45#@26" and after it went up to 56#@26". I'll try to post pics later.

Pat B where to you get the argentine osage??

I got it from David Knight(primalneedarchery). American osage will work just as well but David offered the other so I took it.
  Mark, with 1/4" thick osage you can get your weight up quite a bit I would imagine. Glue it up in reflex and if you have it use Urac. If not TB glue will woek fine. Just glue it up and retiller the limbs. If it still isn't enough add the sinew.

Thanks Pat.  I was going to put belly lams on, and sinew or plane the back flat and put on bamboo.  But there is slight twist in the limbs.  

I was shooting a few months ago and heard one little tick. There is a family of pin knots that always worried me.  Tick could have been nothing, but I know the rarely are nothing, but something.


I really wanted to add the bison horn and still might, but not sure I want to go thru the whole cutting, and boiling and finding two 28" pieces.

The bow I was reffering to has a cherrybark backing. I've looked but can't find the pics of it after I added the belly slats. I was amazed how much weight such a little bit of osage added.

I finally found the pic I was looking for. You can see that very little osage added to the belly can increase the draw weight considerably.
  The darker wood feathered out on the belly is the Argentine osage. I glued it down with urac.

Thanks Pat.  I just found some osage lams 1/5" to put on her.  I am also going to add some reflex and sinew.  Should get her up there.

Thanks Pat,nice looking bow and do I see yellow and black string matching the bow thats just brings it all together.I'll have to get with David on the osage.

It is yellow and tan B-50 although I use yellow and black quite often. I try to match the color of the string to colors in the bow or at least compliment the colors.
  This is now a very sweet shooting 60" bend through the handle static recurve. I'll have it at the Tenn. Classic if you want to see it.
