Is it time to cut?
« on: March 10, 2011, 10:38:00 PM »
I found a cluster of pecan trees today in a woodlot thats being cleared out close to my house. There are 4 trees growing out of the same stump, they are all about 10-12" diameter and straight for about the first 10-12 feet. I talked to the guy doing the clearing out and he said he would leave the trees for me if I wanted them. Should I wait another couple of weeks to cut these so the bark will peel off? Most of the trees around here have flowers on them but no leaves yet and I've heard people say wait till the leaves pop out to cut em.

They may peel now but if you can wait a few weeks it would be better. Can you tell if the tree cutters are nocking bark of as the other trees fall?

I didnt notice Pat but I'll go back and look. They're clearing it out with bulldozers and most of it is pushed into huge brushpiles.
