What would you rather be doing? Building bows or shooting/hunting with them?

I only build bows when moose season is closed!! Of course that means I spend a lot more time in the shop but I would rather be out in the woods.  Bob

While hunting checking out every tree wondering how many bows you could get out of it.

I'm a hunter. That's why I build em. When I'm hunting I'm building though so it's close.

hunting with a bow I built.  But like b.glass said, I will be looking at all the trees for candidates.

I rarely build bows during hunting season and rarely hunt during bowbuilding season.  To everything, turn, turn, turn, there is a season, turn, turn, turn.  (Ecclesiastes 3:1, Pete Seeger 1959)

Depends, if you're talking about being in a shop working on modern traditional during hunting season, no. It seems working outdoors under a tree or by the campfire on primitive gear would be OK. It also depends on if it was something you needed right then, say you're favorite bow got damaged and you needed to replace it the first day of hunting season. Around here I'm trying to do things already to prepare for the fall hunting season.

Amen John.

I guess I started thinking about this because it is one of the prettiest days I've had off work in a while and I'm torn between building bows and stump shooting and scouting, maybe getting a shot at a ground hog.

One of the first bows I bought was made by a guy that talked like he didn't shoot much.

Never been hunting. All I do is build one, shoot a little bit with it, and build another one.  :D

I build them in the winter and early spring so hunting and building are not mutually exclusive to me.  :)  Jawge

I really enjoy both.  I think I am better at building bows than I am at shooting them.

Most of my building gets done at night after the kids are in bed, so I can do both. Just wish I had more time for both.

A couple of years ago I would've said hunting first and bowbuilding second. Now I'm not sure, a couple of times last year I found myself workin on bows in the shop in the middle of november when I shouldve been sittin in a stand!
