Using sinew
« on: April 09, 2011, 06:31:00 PM »
Been reading along and watching all these posts using sinew and now I want to try. My question is... How much sinew to use?  I've looked on-line and in some catalops that seel sinew in pachages of two tendons.
How much will I need to sinew a simple hickory selfbow, or any bow for that matter?

I used 4 elk legs on my bow. That's probably 6-8 deer legs.

I have used 6 deer leg sinews, and I have used the artificial sinew as well

I prep 8 deer leg tendons.  I don't always use it all but it's a bummer to run out in the middle of the job.  Moose or elk, you can get away with prepping 4 or 5.

Thanks, guys. That's what I needed to know.
It's a shame to think about all the sinew we waste each year at the camp. Wish I'd only known...
Thanks,
Stan

Stan, theree a lot of folks out there that do save and trade sinew. Do a search here and on PA. I'm sure you can find what you want in a trade.
