glue on points (not sure where to put it)
« on: April 16, 2011, 10:15:00 AM »
basically , in using woodies , what is considered traditional as far as points go? ]turkey is like 3 days away , and i have to drive to new york on opening day...

i thought i had seen an antler point before , but i cant find anything for the life of me...i cant even find glue on field points locally , so im hoping perhaps a bottle bottom might be workable in 3 days?

ain't got no gas in it...mmmhmmm...

Go to the dumster behind the local glass company and rescue some 1/4" plate glass scraps. You can cut them into triangular shape first or just start knapping.
Any good 2 or 3 blade commercial point or a trade point should be adiquate for turkeys.

Make sure the game laws allow stone points. Three Rivers Archery has stone and trade hunting points but I don't know if you would get them in time. I've seen talk about guys making thier own trade points but I'm not sure what metal they use for them, a type of saw blade I think. Plate glass is good too like Pat said and you don't need tons of experience. I have some cut to shape and just need pressure flaked but don't think I could get them to you in time. I live fairly close to the Ohio line (east/central Indiana), if Youngstown isn't too far away I could meet you maybe half way? It's a thought!

Just Googled it. You are as close to the Penn. line as I am to the Ohio line. It wouldn't be worth your time or gas.

My NY hunting regulations guide says a legal arrow head is nonbarbed has two or more cutting edges and is at least 7/8 in. wide.Thats the only stipulation iv ever seen stated. Glass or stone is fine.Hova, where are you hunting in NY.If your close to Corning let me know and I'll give you some 125 grn. eskimos'. Just PM me be glad to help out.

If you are near Corning they should have all the glass you will need for points.

Hova, since your pushed for time I'd just get some glue on steel 2 blades or snuffers and cut my losses. Maybe next time around you can get your stone points made in advance and get em all set up in time to practice with them some before the hunt?
I think any style glue on broad head and a wood shaft is old school traditional.

Hova,

I'm in Hornell, NY not sure where you will be in relation to that. Turkey starts May 1 so you have a week. You should be able to order something in by then. (may have to pay more for shipping though) Let me know if I can help.
Choose this day whom you will serve...as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
