Oak Board Bow

I recently got ahold of some white oak boards with nice grain lines and I'm thinking about making a board bow. How does white oak hold up as a bow, and what would anyone suggest for a backing?

If the edge grain is straight you dont need to back it with anything. White oak is nice stuff.
