first recurve, any lay-up resources
« on: April 25, 2011, 03:52:00 PM »
I want to try a 58 or 60 in 1 pc recurve. I have only built longbows and need a little help with lay-up. Looking to hit 45-50 lbs at 28 in.

Thanks, Todd

Todd,

I've also only built longbows and have been been thinking about recurves.  I see that Binghams has some good information on their site.  Kenny would also be a great resource I'm sure.

Good luck, please post pics along the way.

It depends on your design, riser length and the profile of the limb. My 50s style 58" recurve form would take somewhere around a .205" total stack with 17" riser and 1.5" wide at the fades if I was aiming for 47 - 50#. That is using .040 glass back and belly. If I use different glass it would be a different total stack, same goes for different length riser. Miss it by just a little and it could end up 10# heavy or light.
